THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 13TH // 6-8PM
In this 2 hour class, Melissa from Melissa Mary Jenkins Art will teach a basic history of the traditional Mali mud cloth or bogolanfini, which is one of the best known African cloth traditions. You will learn about the language of symbols and how the cloth was traditionally passed onto mother and daughter as an important way to mark the major transitions of life. Melissa will guide you as you translate your own story onto a painted wall hanging on bark.
This class requires no previous art experience.
There will be several examples of mud cloth bark wall hangings in various colours to inspire and guide your creativity. You will be taking home a few tiny pieces and your very own larger bark wall hanging that includes wire and eye hooks. The bark has been collected from Ontario forest floors and firewood and no trees were harmed by Melissa.
BYOB - Painting is made better with a good drink in hand.
Light snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments will also be provided.
